When your new mobile’s arrived and you’ve got your PAC code, you’re ready to switch your old number to your new phone. Here’s how to make your switching day run as smoothly as possible.

Jot down your switching date

Got your PAC code from your old mobile provider yet? Great. Give us a call us on 0345 6000 789* with the number you’d like to keep and we’ll tell you when we can make it happen.

Switching your number to Virgin should take no longer than one working day if you call before 6pm. (Just make sure you’re not on holiday on your transfer day – because we can’t switch your number while your phone is abroad!)

Use up your credit
If you’re switching from a Pay As You Go mobile with another provider, remember to use up any remaining minutes, texts or data. Credit can’t be carried over.

Back up all your contacts
You can transfer any contacts on your old SIM using your phone’s cloud service, if it has one, or by putting your old SIM in your new phone and copying the contacts to your new phone’s internal memory. (If your phone is locked to another provider, give them a call to unlock it.)

Set up voicemail
This must be done before you switch your number. Just call 222 from your new mobile before your switching day.

Keep your phone on

We’ll make sure your old number is switched over to your new phone by midnight on your switching day. Usually, this only takes a few hours. Sometimes you might get what we call a ‘split service,’ which basically means you can’t make or receive calls. But don’t worry. Just keep your phone switched on during the day to help speed things up a bit.
